EDT Sessional & Desk Back-Up Worker (Social Worker)

Job Introduction

The role of the weekend Sessional Social Worker / Back up Desk Worker is to be available as necessary to either support the core team member or to complete a specified piece of work on behalf of the Emergency Duty Service. Sessional Workers are able to add their availability to the EDT weekend on call rota for sessional shifts and will be called upon to support the EDT desk as required.

About the role:

The team only deal with emergencies requiring immediate social care intervention, so do not hold cases. We provide a wide range of children and adult services to vulnerable service users across the district outside of normal business hours. We ensure appropriate representation and support is provided to individuals, families and other professionals based on emergency or out of hours situations. This could include anything from enquiries to advice and strategy discussions, through to Child Protection S47 investigations.

We work on a rota that provides cover at times that the daytime offices are closed on evenings, overnight, weekends and public holidays. We are office based (between Trust offices and Bradford police station) and can work from home when on nights, but must complete visits as required to respond to crises as the need arises.  You will often be working independently and in emergency, but we have strong links with the police and health partners to ensure a multi-agency response.

You’ll be part of a skilled and professional team, supported by experienced colleagues and managers to assist with complex emergencies.

Essential Requirements of the role:

A Qualified Social Worker, with a minimum of 4 years post qualifying experience, you’ll be operating with a high level of professional autonomy. With highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, you’ll be able to operate effectively within multi-agency and inter-professional partnerships. You’ll have sound working knowledge of all relevant legal requirements and be able to undertake safeguarding assessment and planning. You’ll have excellent assessment skills and will consider all the risks to inform your decisions.

  • You will be required to have access to your own Personal Vehicle with Business Insurance.
  • Appointment to the role will be subject to passing a Police Vetting Check for the purposes of Desk Work.
